The rapid advances in nanotechnology during and immediately after the Tricentennial War led to concurrent advances in cybernetics and medical science as well, as self-replicating colonies of nanites were injected into living beings to serve as automatic regeneration and immune system enhancers, memory storage and computing capabilities in addition to the brain's own, and an effective means of interfacing with any device, simply by linking the wireless network of a device's nanocolony to the network generated by the operator's own nanocolony.
Nanites are capable of reassembling damaged or worn-out cells molecule by molecule—or, even atom by atom if need be—greatly enhancing the body's own regenerative system's ability to do this. Nanites are much more capable than targeted RNA treatments in neutralizing even the most adaptive cancers, their molecular-level computers and networking capabilities giving them the ability to adapt even more rapidly than the cancers they target.
The same goes for any other diseases attacking the body, even those tailored to bypass or destroy organic immune systems; the nanites can rapidly analyze the DNA profile of the pathogen they're fighting and adapt themselves to either remake the pathogen into something more beneficial to the organism or destroy it completely.
Aside from the obvious ability to repair and reassemble damaged or worn-out synapses, neurons and brain cells, an organism's nanocolony also have more than enough memory collectively to augment the brain's own natural ability in that area, with its collective quantum processing and isotopic-memory capabilities able to enhance the brain's own thinking power.
Every device can now be neurally operated, with greater speed and efficency, the operator's brain transmitting commands to his nanocolony, which then transmits them via wireless networking to the nanocolony integral to each and every modern device, the device's nanocolony then relaying those instructions along the appropriate circuit paths to be instantly and immediately executed.
Nanocolonies have also successfully done away with removable storage devices of any kind, as a simple nanocolony link between anyone and any computer is all which is necessary to download and back up files in isotopic memory.
The Mannies and Soyachi have already explored the possibility of direct mental control via nanocolony link, turning that possibility into the collar injected into each and every one of their zeds.
As for the Terrans and the other races, they have gone to great lengths to make sure this never, ever happens, hardcoding each nanocolony to permit only their host brain's EEG patterns to control their host's actions, giving the host the option to accept or reject incoming thoughts being transmitted into her head.
